What are workflows?
Some requests come up again and again: check the site for broken links, write this week’s release notes, review what changed today. Instead of typing the same request each time, save it as a workflow and run it with one click.
What a workflow contains
- Instructions. What the agent should do, written the way you’d write a message. You can use headings, lists, and links.
- A title. Optional. Without one, Enjoy names the workflow after the start of its instructions.
- A collection. A group the workflow belongs to. New workflows go into Yours unless you pick another collection.
- A preferred agent. Optional. The agent, model, and other settings its runs should use.
- A schedule. Optional. For example, every weekday at 9:00.
Workflows belong to one project. Enjoy keeps them with the project’s conversations and docs. See Project storage.
Ways to use a workflow
- Run it. Run starts a new conversation where the agent follows the instructions. See Run a workflow.
- Add it to a message. Type @ in the message box to attach a workflow and add your own details. See Add a workflow to a message.
- Schedule it. Enjoy starts a run at the times you choose while it’s open on your computer. See Schedule a workflow.
- Link it to another workflow. Mention one workflow inside another, and the agent continues with it when it gets there. See Link workflows.
- Pin or duplicate it. Pin the ones you run most to the top of Workflows, or make a copy to change. See Pin or duplicate a workflow.
Each run is an ordinary conversation. You can reply to steer the agent, answer its questions, and follow up when it’s done.
Where to find them
Select Workflows in the rail on the left side of the window, under Conversations and Files. On a phone, or in any narrow window, select Show sidebar at the top left first. You can also press ⌃3 on a Mac, or Alt+3 on Windows and Linux.
Gallery and New workflow are at the top right. Below them is the search field, Run a workflow…. Under it, a row of buttons shows All workflows, only Scheduled ones, or one collection. Unsorted appears when some workflows aren’t in any collection. New collection is at the end of that row.
Workflows are listed one per line: an icon Enjoy picks from the workflow’s words, the workflow’s name, and the start of its instructions. In All:
- Pinned. If you’ve pinned workflows on this device, they come first. A pinned workflow isn’t listed again in its collection.
- Each collection, under its name.
A line shows Running while a run of that workflow is still going, and a scheduled workflow shows how often it repeats. Point at a line to show Run, Edit (the pencil), which opens the workflow’s page ready to type in its instructions, and a ⋯ button, whose menu has Pin to top, Duplicate, and Details.
When you select a collection or Scheduled, or type in the search field, only the matching workflows are listed, under their collection’s name, with pinned ones first. While you’re typing in the search field, one workflow is highlighted, the first one at first. Press the Down and Up arrow keys to highlight another, and Enter to run it.
Select a workflow’s name, or choose Details from its ⋯ menu, to open its page. The page is also where you change the workflow, and every change saves on its own:
- The top bar. Workflows at the left goes back to the library, as does Escape. At the right are the save status, such as Saved, a ⋯ menu with Pin to top, Duplicate, Open file on the computer app, and Delete, then Run.
- The title. Type to rename the workflow.
- Small menus under the title. The collection, Repeat, and the preferred agent. When the workflow repeats, its time and time zone show below them.
- The instructions. Select them and type.
Workflows from an installed collection, and removed workflows opened from a message, open read-only, with a button to save your own copy. See Edit a workflow.
When you start a new conversation, Enjoy also suggests up to three of your workflows below What are you working on?, starting with the ones you’ve pinned.
Where workflows come from
- You write them. Select New workflow. See Create a workflow.
- The Gallery. Ready-made workflows you can add to the project. See Add ready-made workflows from the Gallery.
- Your agent. Ask it to save a routine as a workflow. See Ask your agent to create or change a workflow.
When a workflow helps
- Tasks you repeat with the same steps, like preparing a release or tidying the project.
- A standard way of doing something, like a review checklist you want followed every time.
- Checks you want done on a schedule, like a morning summary.
For a one-off task, a normal conversation is simpler. See Turn repeat work into workflows.
On the web app and the iPhone app
- The web app (app.enjoy.dev) has the same Workflows tab. Only opening a workflow’s file in another app needs the computer app. Scheduled runs still happen on the computer that has the project.
- The iPhone app has a Workflows tab in each project. You can filter workflows by collection, read their instructions, see their agent, schedule, and next run, and run them. A search box appears once a project has eight or more workflows. You can also add a workflow to a message or start a new conversation from a suggested workflow. To create, edit, schedule, or delete workflows, manage collections, or use the Gallery, use the computer app or the web app.
