Open your apps on your phone

Apps run on the computer that has the project. Your phone shows them through an encrypted connection to that computer, the same way it shows the websites your agents start. See See your site from the web app or your iPhone.

Before you start

  • Connect the iPhone app to your computer. See Connect your phone.
  • The computer is yours, and your phone has Full access to it. See Manage your devices.
  • The computer is on, awake, and has Enjoy open.

Steps

  1. Open the project

In the iPhone app, select the project.

  2. Select Apps

It’s at the top, next to Conversations, Files, and Workflows. Each app has a card with its key, name, and what it does. A green dot on a key means the app is running.

  3. Select Open

The app opens full screen. While it starts on your computer, you see its key and “Starting on” with your computer’s name.

  4. Use it, then close it

Use the app as you would on your computer. At the top, select Refresh to reload it, Open in Safari to open it there, or the × to close it.

Good to know

  • Opening an app starts it on your computer if it isn’t running. It keeps running while you use it. Ten minutes after the app last loaded anything, your computer stops it, so an app that only shows live updates may stop while you watch.
  • Opening the same app again goes back to the page you last had open in it.
  • Apps that only open files aren’t listed, because they open in Files on your computer.
  • Find an app appears once a project has eight or more apps.
  • When you can’t open apps, Open is greyed out, and a line above the cards says why: Only a name can open apps on someone else’s computer, View only when you can only view the project, or Only devices with full access can open apps.
  • In the web app (app.enjoy.dev), Apps in the sidebar, which you bring up with Show sidebar at the top left on a phone, lists the same apps, and Apps at the top of the window shows every project’s. Open shows the app in its project, with Reload, Pin to the tab bar, and Open in a new window in its bar. Output, Stop, Change it, and the note about changed code stay on the computer.
  • To make or change an app from your phone, ask an agent in a conversation, as you’d ask for anything else. See Make an app with an agent.
  • A conversation’s preview that shows one of your apps follows the same rule: only your own devices with full access can open it. If you stopped the app on your computer, or its code changed since you last saw it, the preview says the app isn’t running. Open it from Apps instead.

If something goes wrong

“No apps yet”

The project has no apps that open by themselves. Ask an agent on your computer to make one.

“Update Enjoy on” your computer’s name, then “to see its apps here.”

Enjoy on that computer is too old to show apps. Update it there. In a web browser, when the computer can update from there, the message also offers Update and the computer’s name. See Update Enjoy.

“Couldn’t open” the app’s name

The app couldn’t start on your computer. The reason follows, with what the app printed below it. In the web app, the page shows the app’s key with “couldn’t start” after its name instead, as your computer does. Select Try again. To fix the app, open it on your computer and select Fix with an agent.

“can’t open here”

In the web app, the page says the app’s name followed by “can’t open here”, and why: only the computer’s owner can open its apps, this device can only view the project, or apps open from a device with full access. It says so before asking your computer, which checks the same.
