Keep a project synced across your computers

If you work on the same project from two of your computers, say a MacBook and a Mac mini, each one keeps its own conversations, workflows, and docs for it. Enjoy can keep them the same on both, so you can pick up on either computer.

This works when:

  • Both computers are yours, signed in to the same account, with Enjoy open.
  • You’ve connected from this computer to the other one before. See Connect another computer.
  • The project’s folder on each computer is a copy of the same Git repository.

Steps

  1. Open the project

When Enjoy finds the same project on your other computer, a card appears at the top of the conversation list, such as Beer is also on Mac mini.

  2. Select Keep them synced

Enjoy copies what each computer is missing to the other one. The card then shows what came here and what went to your other computer.

  3. Keep working on either computer

While both are online, Enjoy syncs them every couple of minutes. The card comes back when something needs your attention, like a doc that was kept twice or a conversation that was deleted on the other computer.

If you’d rather keep them apart, select Keep separate instead. Enjoy stops asking, on both computers.

Change your mind

  1. Select Project settings. It’s the button with sliders at the bottom of the rail on the left side of the window.
  2. Expand Storage.
  3. Turn Sync across computers on or off. Below it, Storage shows when the project last synced with your other computer. Turning it off stops syncing on both computers. What each one already has stays.

Turn it back on here to resume syncing on both computers. If the other computer is offline, Enjoy remembers your choice and resumes when it can connect. If you turned syncing off on the other computer, turn it back on there. If syncing can’t continue, Storage says why and names the computer.

Good to know

  • What syncs: conversations, docs, workflows, and the project’s agent instructions.
  • What stays on each computer:
    • the project’s own files, since Git already handles those
    • running work, processes, and worktrees
    • message drafts and permission modes
    • workflow schedules: a scheduled workflow comes over, but it only runs on the computer where you scheduled it
  • Working conversations wait. A conversation that’s working, waiting for your approval, or holding queued messages syncs once that’s done.
  • Nothing synced starts work. Conversations that arrive are history. Messages you stopped stay stopped, and Retry works on either computer.
  • Changes on both computers are kept.
    • A conversation continued on both computers becomes one conversation with the messages from each.
    • A doc or workflow edited on both is kept twice, with the other computer’s name added to the copy. The copied workflow isn’t scheduled.
    • Instructions edited on both: one version stays, and the other is saved as a doc named Instructions from and the computer’s name.
  • Deleting travels. Deleting a conversation, doc, or workflow on one computer deletes it on the other, unless it changed there since. If a lot is deleted at once, the other computer keeps it and says so in Project settings › Storage. Delete those there too if you don’t need them.
  • Unreadable records wait. A conversation, doc, or workflow whose file can’t be read is left out until it’s fixed. It’s never deleted on either computer.
  • Images come when you need them. An image in a synced conversation is fetched from your other computer the first time you open it, or when an agent continues the conversation, while that computer is online.
  • Continuing on the other computer. The agent there starts its own session, is given the conversation so far, and is told which turns happened on your other computer.
  • Records go straight between your computers. They use the same encrypted connection as the rest of Enjoy. Nothing is stored along the way.
  • One partner per project. A project syncs with one other computer. Both need a recent version of Enjoy; if one needs an update, Storage says so.
  • Moving to a new Mac. If you copy Enjoy’s data to a new Mac, for example with Migration Assistant, the new Mac asks again whether to keep each project synced.
  • Disconnecting a computer. If you disconnect your other computer from this one, its projects stop syncing here, and workflows that came from it wait for you to review them before they run. See Rename or disconnect your devices.
  • Not for shared folders. If the project’s records are already shared through Git, a cloud folder, or a network folder, Enjoy doesn’t sync them again.
